Super Skills Series

The Super Skills Series is designed to help players build a strong foundation in the essential skills of hockey. Each session focuses on mastering the core fundamentals that allow players to perform with confidence, speed, and control in game situations. Through high-repetition drills, small-area games, and skill progressions, players will develop the habits needed to improve every time they step on the ice.

Open to players from 8U-16U. Players grouped by age.

Spring Break Skills & SAGS

Join the NAHL NM Ice Wolves players at the Outpost during Spring Break to learn the core fundamental skills through a variety of fun drills and small area games.

PDC Prep Clinic

Our PDC Prep Clinic is an opportunity to hone your skills and gear up for the official PDC Camp Put on LOEHA and USA Hockey. The official Player Development Camp will be held in Santa Fe on Sunday March 22nd and this is an opportunity for boys and girls with birth years 2009-2012 to participate in high level training, demonstrate their hockey abilities, and compete for the state allocated roster spots to attend advanced District Player Development Camps.

Goaltender Concepts & Training

During this goaltender-specific camp, we will go over three main concepts in modern goaltending:

  • Tracking: How to track pucks to develop the ability to catch and cover.
  • Angles: Taking correct angles to maximize the amount of net covered.
  • Gap Control: Good gap control to manage positioning for first and secondary scoring opportunities.

Learn to Play Hockey

The Learn to Play Hockey program is for all kids 12 and under that have learned how to skate and now would like to learn the fundamental skills involved in hockey. This program is designed to be the natural progression from Learn to Skate to our House Hockey League through NM Ice. (https://www.nmice.org/)

 

Are you already playing hockey? The Learn to Play Hockey program is also a great way to get additional ice time and instruction for those currently playing youth league hockey!

 

Don’t have hockey equipment? No problem! This clinic includes a youth starter hockey kit in the price. Our starter kit includes everything EXCEPT for skates, helmet, and stick. All additional items can be purchased at Chilly’s Pro Shop located inside our ice sports facility.

Speed Gym Training

Located next door to the Outpost Ice Arenas you will find a hockey-specific training facility where we operate off-ice training to coincide with on-ice camps, clinics, and in-season play. Our training model is meant to improve your athlete’s strength, speed, and agility with exercises related to the hockey-specific movement required to find success in the game.

 

Body Contact and Battle Camp

Contact is used in a variety of different ways at all levels in hockey. Many of these skills are universal and very important to understand before reaching a full contact game at the 14U level. During this camp each session will be tailored toward the age of the players on the ice to better help them understand and learn how to use body contact effectively and safely.

Advanced Skating & Skills

Advanced Skating and skills is a program aimed at teaching modern skating and puck skills that are needed to have success against higher level competition. Players will be challenged to learn the importance of the following:

 

  • Puck Placement 
  • Edge Control 
  • Weight Transfer
  • Body Position 

The Outpost Academy U10 | U12

The Academy is a 6-week progression program geared towards travel and prospective travel hockey players looking to take their game to the next level. During this camp, we look to build athletes’ technical skills to improve tactical execution, with the goal of building a complete hockey player. We recommend players commit to both phases, however, it is not mandatory. Athletes are welcome to sign up for any phase that works for their schedule.

 

The Outpost Academy U14 | U16 | U18

The Academy is a 6-week progression program geared towards travel and prospective travel hockey players looking to take their game to the next level. During this camp, we look to build athletes’ technical skills to improve tactical execution, with the goal of building a complete hockey player. We recommend players commit to both phases, however, it is not mandatory. Athletes are welcome to sign up for any phase that works for their schedule.

 

Shoot to Score Beginner

Shoot to Score for Beginners is a perfect shooting course for ALL U10 HOCKEY PLAYERS AND ALL BEGINNER U12 and U14 HOCKEY PLAYERS. In this clinic, players will receive information and guidance on basic shooting fundamentals in all shots used by these age groups. Parents will be informed on how to buy the proper equipment so they can set their child up for success.

 

Key Skills Taught:

  • Pull Wrist Shot
  • Backhand
  • Puck Placement
  • Catching and Giving Passes

Shoot to Score Intermediate

Our intermediate course is a natural progression from our Shoot to Score Beginner course. In this clinic we accommodate all  U12 and U14 players that have completed the beginner clinic OR are currently playing at the travel hockey level.  Here we look to test their skills from the beginner sessions by stressing timing and release pressure, forcing kids to react under game like situations.

 

Key Skills Taught:

  • Pull Wrist & Snap Shot
  • Backhand
  • Intro to Slap Shot
  • Intro to One Timer

Shoot to Score Advanced

Our advanced course accommodates all U12 and U14 players that have completed the intermediate clinic OR are currently playing at the Travel Hockey level. Here we progress with all shots from the beginner and intermediate courses and look to add tactical details needed to score on higher level goalies.

  • Deception
  • Goalie Movement
  • Under Handling
  • Moving on Catch

Beginner Power Skating

If you have completed Learn to Play Hockey or are relatively new to the game, this clinic is perfect for you. We will  break down the skating stride, teach proper body angle and technique through a variety of edgework and balance drills. This is an opportunity to gain confidence in your edges to improve your game. FULL HOCKEY EQUIPMENT REQUIRED.

Adult Learn To Skate

Using the Learn to Skate USA adult track athletes over the age of 18 from beginner to advanced can improve their skills in a class designed for adult skaters with the Outpost’s certified skating coaches. This class, along with all Outpost activities, follow all state health guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Online registration only.

Youth Learn to Skate

The Outpost Ice Arenas are pleased to offer our Youth Learn to Skate. This class, along with all Outpost activities, follow all state health guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy environment.

Whether your goal is to become a competitive figure skater, hockey player, ice dancer, speed skater, or just to feel more comfortable on the ice, a solid foundation in skating skills is essential! Using the Learn to Skate USA class program any skater under the age of 18 from beginner to advanced can improve their skills in a fun and relaxed class environment. Online registration only.
